Well! As with my taste in films and books, my taste in music is totally ... um .... well - sublime to the ridiculous and all point in between! I enjoy rock (both hard and soft), folk, country, jazz (modern and traditional), funk, blues, soul, pop (well - some!), ballards, punk (the GOOD bits!) and classical. If I've missed anything, it's because I didn't think of it quickly. I've even enjoyed some rap and hip hop ;-)
I tend to buy music compilations, as it's normally only a few songs that I really enjoy. It's unusual for me to buy an album of someone. However, I make an exception in the case of :- Queen (my all time favourite band), Meatloaf (just SO much fun to listen to), Eurythmics (Annie Lennox - what a voice and Dave Stewart - sheer genius), ELO (again so much fun!), Beach Boys (sunshine on tap), Aretha Franklin (Oh God! I wish I could sing like that!), Louis Armstrong (Ah! Satchmo!). There will be others - I like Shania Twain (especially the sense of humour), Tenacious D (Listen to Tribute - or better yet watch the movie - I was in stitches), Shakira (voice and moves - sigh)
I've been singing since I was about 6 years old! My parents tell stories of my debut in a School Christmas Show where I sang the Coventry Carol as a solo - pitch perfect (apparently!) I've been in church and school choirs, taken part in school musicals and eisteddfods. Since going to college and being married, I let the singing lapse, until the kids were born. Then I started sining to them.
It grew from there! First the church choir again and then proper singing lessons! I was curious to see whether I could still sing - or even carry a tune. As delightful as my children can be, they are biased that Mummy can sing ;-)
Below - I've put links to places I enjoy, including my teacher (who's got the patience of a saint!) This will undoubtably change as I listen to more and more things (see above ;-)
- Discovered about 5 years ago! I just fell in love with the variety of classical stuff. It's my chill out weekend listening in the car music and has yet to fail me! I signed up for the magazine and that is awesome too! Especially the CDs - fabulous!
- I can remember vividly saying that I would NEVER listen to Radio 2 - that was for OLD people .... (sigh). I can also remember the shock of playing with the radio in my car on a long journey and hitting a station that was playing all my favourites! Just when I was convinced I'd found something hip - the announcer mentioned "Radio 2" - Oh the shame! Now, I'm a confirmed listener - Wogan to get to work and Steve Wright to come home, I even listen to Drive Time with Chris Evans when I'm taking kids or myself to after school stuff! (Doomed I tell you Doomed!! ;-)
- My teacher's web page! As I said before, the patience of a saint! Thanks David!!
